EMA Shifts its Headquarters from London to Amsterdam- The Netherlands

  • Post decision of UK moving out from EU with the announcement of Brexit in 2016- EMA initiated shifting of its headquarters (HQs) apart from UK. EMA decided to move its HQs to Amsterdam after voting from EU in Nov-2017 with the loss of 900 jobs in UK
  • EMA officially lowered 28 countries flags on 25 Jan-2019 and started closing its former London HQ offices. Dutch government offered temporary premises from 1 Jan-2019 and expected to get its permanent office building in March-2019
  • Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA) will be responsible for further approval of new drugs in UK from Mar-2019. EU and the Netherlands agreed for the joint governance structure to deal with staff relocation- financials and legal aspects
