The US FDA Grants Marketing Authorization to Virtual Incision’s MIRA Surgical System for Adults Undergoing Colectomy Procedures

Shots:

  • The US FDA has authorized the company's MIRA Surgical System (MIRA) for adults undergoing colectomy procedures based on the program conducted across the US. The device’s commercialization will begin through the First Access Program
  • The MIRA, a miniature robotic-assisted surgery (miniRAS) device, aims to offer the benefits of robotic surgery without the need to reorganize ORs
  • Additionally, the company anticipates the expansion of MIRA’s utility into gynecology, general surgery, urology and other soft tissue & solid organ surgeries. Studies in gynecological procedure are expected in 2024, while a new iteration designed for general surgery is underway, with its FIH study outside the US expected later in 2024
