• Amazon’s Alexa will have the future capabilities to predict the onset of heart attacks & calling for help while sleeping by detecting the gasping sound of agonal breathing
• AI capabilities are tested in a study capturing real agonal breathing from 911 calls- results demonstrated that it detected 97% agonal breathing events from up to 20 feet away from a speaker generating the sounds. The research is funded by the National Science Foundation
• The researcher plans to commercialize the technology via Sound Life Sciences- a spin-out of the University of Washington. The team envisage that technology could function like an app- or a skill for Alexa that runs passively on a smart speaker or smartphone while people sleep
